How to Map OneDrive as a Network Drive on Cloud Servers

< 1 min read

Some users prefer accessing OneDrive like a traditional network drive inside their cloud desktop.

While OneDrive normally syncs through the OneDrive folder, mapping it as a network location can help simplify access for certain workflows.

Step 1: Get Your OneDrive CID

Open OneDrive in a browser and copy the CID value from the URL.

Example URL:

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=XXXXXXXX

The CID is the unique identifier for your OneDrive storage.

Step 2: Map the Drive in Windows

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Click Map Network Drive
  3. Enter the path:
https://d.docs.live.net/CID

Replace CID with your actual OneDrive ID.

Step 3: Sign In

Enter your Microsoft 365 credentials when prompted.

The OneDrive storage will now appear as a mapped drive in File Explorer.

Important Notes

Mapping OneDrive as a network drive does not provide full sync functionality. For most environments, using the OneDrive sync application remains the recommended approach.
